kaden what are you doing today?
I got a bead on a cement mixer, $150 bucks..its electric which kinda sucks but I can just run it off an inverter whenever I can get started building the house…or invest in a gas one, probly invest in a gas one. I’m gonna cob all summer, make the cliche crap like a bench and a pizza oven, maybe a sweat house too. gotta get digging soon!

I am gathering materials right now. So far I have all the windows and doors, and a pot belly stove, next up to gather is whatever god puts in my path. It worked for the windows and doors so i figure I’ll give that a shot, once all the materials are gathered I’ll take that as a sign to commence building.
Still need:
*green house windows and door
*floor material
*kitchen cabinets and counters
*roofing
*appliances
*power generation (wind, solar, hydro, all three?)

A tiny little dream house. An extension of the earth. My earliest dream is to build a house of my own with my own hands.

We are starting a life together, and soon, a family. We want our cob home in the Hill Country to be our homebase and then we want to build a cob home in each Baja Sur and British Columbia.

I’m 15 and am thinking about being an architect when I’m older. I also want to build and live in a cob house when I am older. How would I build a cob house, how long will it take, where would I get the materials, how many peopleshould help me, how expensive is it to build ne, how big can you build one? any other info/tips would be great…

The cool thing about cob and many forms of natural building, is that anyone can do it- after a minimum of research and poking around the net is done, you’re on your way
I wish 43 would let you post more than one pic to an entry…there’s so many cool cob houses- but i can only show one pic that i found…

it’s not about cob, but very it’s very similar, it actually looks a lot easier than cob and relatively the same after the finish is put on. It’s worth a glimpse, just make sure you are patient enough to scroll past the first few pictures to see the real cool examples at the bottom. http://www.lifeinthefastlane.ca/sustainable-village-provides-innovative-shelter-and-safe-haven/uncategorized

Buy a foreclosed house in any condition, that way you have a foundation, septic and well, or water and electrical access already. You’ll get the major expenses for next to nothing. The major expenses being:the Land, a Septic system(most states require a septic for permanent dwellings sorry composter toilet people…you can still have composting toilets, just you need a septic too), water, and access to the power grid. This is all you need, the house can be falling down, cuz your knocking that down anyway to build your cob cottage. the septic probably doesnt have to be perfect, just needs to exist and pass inspection (if inspection of this exists?..aside from “yeah its there”). once they say, youre all set, septic wise, you can go out and get your compsoter toilet and not ever use the septic again, One less expense right?
