Is it ok to get your body fat below 14% ??? 18 months ago

Hi, ive been dieting and walking a lot and my body fat is down to 16% which ive been told is excelent… Is it ok to drop it down even further without suffering a slight case of death or something >>>????... :-S

How low can you go with losing body fat ?.. Is it possibly to go too low ?

The main only area left to lose fat seems to be on my stomach…

I’ve lowered my body fat % by about 7 points, amd am more than satisfied with that outcome. I have gone from just over 27% to just over 20%. I have also lost 10 pounds working on this. (I only lose weight when my goal isn’t to lose weight; when it happens as asecondary result of another body/fitness goal.)

Body Fat 22 months ago

Losing weight is not my goal. Since I hurt my knee running and had a forced decrease in exercise (the knee is better now, though it will probably never be great), I’ve been feeling like I have excess flab.

I got my husband a body fat scale for Christmas. The good news is that according to charts, my % is in the “healthy” range for a woman my age. The bad news is that it is higher within the range than I would like. I.e., I can stand to lose a few percentage points. The numbers seemed to bear out what I was feeling (that I have some extra fluff).

I am anti-dieting, so this will have to be achieved through exercise or not at all.

Not so hard, if your willing to give up your sanity 2 years ago

and the enjoyment of food. I often do it but I rather be tied down and beaten that eat another freakin salad today. Gotta make sure you’ve consume lots of water and have quick access to the restroom. sacrifice=suffering. I’m a dancer so you get the picture.

Calipers take alot of work. 2 years ago

So I have been trying to get a good read on the calipers I just purchased. They are very easy to use in that you push a button, squeeze the arms and wait for the beep. The only problem is that one reading shows 14.0 mm, the next 21.0, the next 17, followed by 30.0. These are very good calipers, if you use them on something like a pair of dice, you get the same reading every time. The problem is in the pinch. I will try again on Monday to get an accurate reading that I can reproduce. Until then I will just have to go by the pictures.

I would suggest to everyone with this goal to not hesitate to take a few pictures of yourself in trunks. Halfway toward your goal you will wish you had.

First Goal: Get below 30% 2 years ago

Since I got a little electronic body fat moniter, I haven’t been able to get it to dip below 30%. I’ve been lifting weights and hiking. My co-workers are asking me if I’ve lost weight, but I still haven’t got below the 30% mark. That’s my goal.

I want 9% 2 years ago

9% seems like a decent number to me. Currently I am around 14%, so it seems doable and not that far off. I have measured with a Tanita electric scale in the past and it is a great tool. The only problem is that my roommate(s) wouldn’t leave it alone and would always put it away for me under the sink. The sink that eventually became the leaky sink. Needless to say…
I recently bought a Fatrak II caliper ($20) which measures the skinfold and is a good deal more difficult to use. However, it strikes me as a better tool because it allows you to measure each part separately, but then then the thing calculates the total% for you.
Anyway, I am alredy on a solid nutrition plan along with 5 days of running per my beginner 5K plan, and weight training on six days; I’m well on my way.
Tentitively I have set six weeks from now as a deadline for my goal. I weigh 175. I would like to lose 5% BF. 175*.O5= 8.3 . Dropping 8.3 lbs of fat in six weeks is well within the area of safe reduction.
Yikes, hope you enjoyed my novel.
Love to hear from you if you have questions or comments.

Ok, time to hop on the saddle 2 years ago

So normally I felt a little soft when I weighed around 155, but today I weight 161. Yeah, stupid delicious food. It’s on.

I’m now down to 24.2%. In January 2007, I was 27%...

Setting achievable goals keeps me motivated 2 years ago

Remembering one of my other goals, less is more, I’m going to set myself the challenge to reduce 2% of my body fat by 5 May (6 weeks). Hoping to reduce by 7% in total by 24 September (5 months).
