I live in, quite possibly, the best city in the Untied States for urban exploration. Detroit has an estimated 12,000 abandoned factories, hotels, homes, churches… you name it! I really need to get off my butt and get into them. Winter is over, and so are my excuses.
How to do more urban exploration
How I did it: Simple, drive around a bunch, find interesting places, scope them out, and then get someone to explore with.
This is an ongoing thing, the railyard is the best thing we have, but ive explored trading posts, water tanks, abandoned farms, and lots more. The first trick is finding places, Im always looking for tips/places the 2nd trick is make sure if you cross a fence line to bring a buddy. someone who can call for help if oyu need it,
Lessons & tips: be careful, dont bring any weapons or drugs/alcohol/burgulary tools,
Dont take or move anything, dont destroy! watch where you step.

Just because I don’t update my things thing much. Went lurking last night, house had been on fire. Abandond for awhile, location was towards the edge of a nearby town. Just a couple other than myself were along. Ended up a very interesting night. New friends got introduced to the fact that I am the group lightweight and thusly do the stupidish exploring where weight is an issue.
nyc is kinda scary for this. there are some commonly-explored areas, like the highline railroad, or a few bridges around williamsburg and dumbo. however, seems like more often than not the areas i dip my toe into have already been explored by scary people i’d rather not run into.
After finding an auction to have nothing good a buddy and I wandered over to an old train depot and poked about for a bit. Nothing really worth of note but first lurking of the season so… HURRAY!! deffinatly need to do more of it… still haven’t found any bodies
Well…I got real excited a while back about a find in New York City, which I had strongly believed was a boiler from the Beach Pneumatic Transit system. Unfortionately, further followup showed that it postdated the system by about 20 years. It was actually part of an early direct-current powerplant.
However, the tile from the old system is still in place and other artifcats seem to be as well, but nothing you would reconize if you didn’t know what you’re looking for.
As for the grand prize the tunnel entrance, that was sealed and bricked over (the tunnel is gone). Whether or not there may be something behind the wall, such as remnants of tiles or even the plaque, well…that’s anyone’s guess, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up.
On the bright side, I’ve got a lot more urban exploring to do.
