I reckon there are no safe havens for investments at the moment, apart from making good karma by donating to charities. I am taking the opportunity now because there might be hyperinflation soon.
How to financial Freedom
How I did it: Define Financial Freedom: my definition was to have no debts and enough money saved to meet known bills. First I declared banckruptcy with the ITSA (Australian.) Second I moved to a place of rent I could afford (sadly this meant moving in with my grandparents who made me pay for my electricity and food, not rent per se) Thirdly I went out and looked for a higher paying job. Fourth, I never stopped looking for ways to earn more money, like selling everything I had! Sixth, I then chopped off the financial drains that I just couldn't afford like gym membership and other subscriptions. I went jogging along the beach instead of on a treadmill, and that was a great change!
Lessons & tips: It was depressing to force myself to a 'Square 1' financial position. ITSA have their forms on the internet so if you are feeling too embarrased just print them out and post them like I did. Feeling responsible for saving yourself financially is a rewarding feeling. Money spent on courses are investments that will lead to higher paying jobs. I don't care if Commonwealth Bank comes on top as the bank of the year, don't bank with them.
Resources: ITSA, and their comprehensive website. Bendigo Bank, and their simple banking proceedures. My grandparents!

Paid my mobile bill late this week and got a dishonour fee from the bank on a direct debit. But I’ve taken care of both so I am going good. I have $400 in savings. Not much I know, but at least I haven’t spent it!

So far so good. My rent sometimes has been a day or so late but I’m keeping up. I have no bills at the moment. Last week I was kind of getting embarrased by my bank sending me letters advising me that some direct debit rejections. But when I looked at them I relised I was being given a list of things I need to stop subscribing to, as, clearly, I’m not keeping up with payments.

I’ve found a place to rent. Shared Accomodation, but beggers can’t be choosers. I find it tough sometimes because I get down to my last $10 and I know that I don’t have a credit card to rely on.

Last year I got rid of my bad debts by filing for bankruptcy. I’m kind of nervous for the end of the month when my taxes are due and I find out how my bankruptcy really affects me. For the next 3 years I am not allowed to earn more than $60,000p.a, leave the country without permission or put money into investments. Earlier today I finished paying off my last large bill (woohoo!) and I am now working to pay off my smaller debts such as a university fee to continue education, a centerlink loan, and I am saving money so that I can afford to rent my own place.
