take a vacation alone

I went to St Augustine for 3 day weekend last year and had the best vacation of my life.
This year I took a cruise alone. I went to the Cayman Islands and Cozumel Mexico.
I’m glad I went but Carnival cruises suck!!
I met so many nice people on board the ship. I still email with one couple I met.

I will be going to Monterey, California in October. Technically it’s a business trip, but since I will be traveling alone and staying alone in a hotel room, and I am actually going somewhere fun and can go out to eat and to the aquarium and stuff, I say it counts as a vacation alone.

If I go to that con I’ll be accomplishing this at the same time, most likely.

I’m up for being away by myself and have done it lots of times for work. I love the idea of lying in the sun, learning about my surroundings at my own pace, reading and listening to every song on my ipod.

The only thing stopping me is eating alone in the evenings. I reckon I’d feel awkward and would think that people were staring and feeling sorry for me, even though I know it’s more likely that hardly anyone would notice.

It would be nice to visit a place and be able to spend as long as I like staring at a plant that has pushed its way up through the sidewalk instead of being rushed along by someone else’s imagined schedule.

This is something I have always wanted to do, and this will be the year I do it! Not sure where yet, but I am excited to start looking:)

I’m coming for you in 2008; 4 days, me and a book and my ipod. Keep an eye out.
