there are many people out there that are suffering different from kinds of problems and all they need is someone to show love.
People doing this are also doing these things:

Businesses that deliver social benefits to all around. I qualify that as humanitarian work as well
SpanishJas is trying to get a plan together
I was sitting at a Starbucks on day when a 18 yr old kid asked me if I had a light. I told him I didnt and continued with my cell phone call. After I hung up he asked me what time it was. He happened to be sitting at the table next to me. We started small talk and then before you know it he told me how he was homeless and had nothing (long story short.) “AAAhhh” I thought to myself.. that would explain a few things. So I told him to meet me at the starbucks the following day. I went home and found a list of shelters, printed them off and met him the next day. We called around and found one for him. I drove him there, got him set up and gave him my cell phone number (no other information though… you cant be too careful these days) He called me and now has a job and was renting… I dont think the renting situation was working out so well, but he was in the process of looking for something else. I havent heard from him in a while, but I hope he is doing well. I tried to give him a small foundation to work with and the rest is up to him.
In Argentina or Peru.
I’ve also seen one about volunteering in Thailand for Tsunami orphans.
The problem with this is getting vacation time, and finding a reputable organization. I hear a lot of these are scams.
If anyone has gone on one they KNOW is legit (Canadian preferably), please let me know!

I was filling a World Vision application for volunteering abroad, but I’m not sure if I have enough vacation time and I can’t take too many day off work, I can’t afford it. I know they have volunteer trips that lasts about 15 days (or so) that I can fit into my vacation time. But, I think the volunteering abroad will have to wait until next year, so I can plan my vacation time more in advanced. In the mean time, it doesn’t mean I can’t volunteer locally (and Canadian Red Cross too) for them doing something else, like with fundraising and awareness; office volunteer, Make Poverty History, etc.
I’ll check out Canadian Red Cross too, to see where and when I can volunteer next year (like maybe try 2 weeks abroad with Canadian Red Cross and 2 weeks with abroad World Vision or something like that) and the year after.

Organizations where I could do humanitarian and/or volunteer work:
World Vision Canada
Canadian Red Cross
Amnesty International Canada
Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders
Hmm… what other Canadian organizations are there?
Greetings, I am a twenty-three year old young man. I am enrolled in college, and will soon obtain my social science associates degree. After this step in my life I would like to join a expedition team, preferrably working in the motherland(Africa) to learn some hands on training. I am well experienced in carpentry work and can do almost anything with my hands. I’m in the strongest part of my life, yet I don’t exactly know which agencies/organizations which can help in my quest. Any help from an experienced person is appreciated. Send me and email and I will be sure to respond. Peace, Love, Prosperity

on a consistent basis…i feel like in order to do this, you gotta make it a habit, as opposed to a one shot deal and a ‘i gave back’
that’s what i need to do

“Anyone know of a reliable organization for volunteering in South America? I've heard a lot of these organizations are fakes. Thanks!”
