i hope i can do it , and i will not forgive it 14 months ago

calypsaticAt least it's a start!

got the first line! Haha, it’s not much to be happy about- but having at least got the beginning of the 4 against 3 pattern makes it feel like the rest of the piece is actually doable. I love this song and I hope I don’t keep putting off learning it because it just sounds so overwhelming. 17 months ago

Brian CastellanosIts a start

I finally sat down and got through the first 10-15 measures of this piece. I can get the theme down at least in the right hand, but I would say that i’m still a beginner-intermediate level.. I started picking up guitar and violin more, but I still like piano, especially this piece, so 15 measures in 2 hours doesn’t seem so bad for me.. 3 years ago

StillThinkingNew

I’m a piano newb. I’ve been doing it for a short month or so. So far I’ve learned a few songs like fur elise and some bach stuff, but nothing anywhere near the level of fantasie impromptu. However, I just love this song. It sounds almost unbelievable that it is coming from just one person on one instrument. I’m a highly self-motivated person so this is not just going to be a short stint on piano, and I hope that within a few years I can play this song and hopefully do it justice. 3 years ago

thoesingone hand at a time, making slow progress

Honestly, I’m not anywhere near skilled enough to play this piece well, but I’m big on long-shot goals. I practiced the hands invidually for the first section and got to a point where I can at least play them together, fairly slowly. I find it to be a very gratifying tactile playing experience, and it inspires me to play more often than I otherwise might. Also, I listen to the piece at least weekly to keep the carrot at the end of the stick. 3 years ago

Pepsiman88Here is some help to all you people!

When playing this piece, you should play both hand separately very slow – then very fast. When you play separate play very fast and when you play together play very slow.(Before the next step you should get it memorized because it is hard read the music and play fast) Then once you can do that, up the tempo little by little. Once you start getting pretty fast, don’t worry about the exact rhythm, just make sure to play the right hand evenly, loud, and fast. And the right hand not so even but a little softer than the right hand. If you do that you will be able to hear the melody. If you practice well it shouldn’t take too long for you to learn how to play. Hope this helps! 3 years ago

okay.. basically I’ve started trying to learn fantasie impromptu

but I’m finding it incredibly hard to play both hands together, I can play other things with the right hand doing 4 beats and the left doing 3 but I’m still stuck lol.

Can anyone suggest any methods to learn it/tips/helpful stuff? 3 years ago

pigtails101in awe and inspired

I was at a musical instrument shop when I heard this 60 over cardiologist played this piece and I’ve been mesmerised ever since. I know it’s not going to be easy but I guess practising is the key to everything. Just hope I’ll be able to play sufficiently well before my summer vacation ends.
And thanks to the people who have done it, I managed to get the link to this piece’s free music sheet.

lingfengMaybe I'll manage to learn it before I die

I took piano lessons for 4 years, then stopped 6 years ago. I’ve been playing things on my own, though, and teaching myself new songs… I’m not very good at all because flute is my primary instrument, but I still enjoy playing.

I saw Fantasie Impromptu played a couple weeks ago by this woman in her seventies, and I was completely blown away and pretty inspired. Now I really want to take up piano lessons again, and I want to learn Fantasie Impromptu sometime in my lifetime.
...Who knows how long it’ll take me, and who knows if I’ll have enough patience to learn it. I’ll start with something easier and work my way up (because every time I look at the score, my eyes cross).

How long had all of you been playing piano when you learned Fantasie Impromptu? I want to see if this goal is actually attainable for me. 4 years ago

I learnt it a couple of years ago… the last bit is tricky but patience is the key. :) 4 years ago

ghizHelp?

I Love this song, But I can’t seem to get anywhere near playing it smoothly. The speed is madness. And how do I play both LH and RH together to get the harmonics correct?

I’d really appreciate some help in this. Thanks! 5 years ago

My favourite song to play. DEFINITELY worth it if you have the patience. I learnt it a few years ago when I had much patience.. these days I never finish learning a song. Stick to it!! 5 years ago

lilpep4everGREAT!

This is a great piece! I played it for my recital. However, i got so bored of it after a while. The middle part i mean. But I just LOVE the end!

I encourage you guys! 5 years ago

livetolearnTomorrow is the big day...

I was going to use the music in case of a memory slip, but I read that the “improvisatory” impression is part of the character of the piece, so I’m going for it. Also playing a cornet solo by Herbert L. Clarke, but that’s a piece of cake in comparison! 5 years ago

hoiitsjoyit took a while

it took two months to learn it. 6 years ago

tamstarNext steps

The last page still needs work. If I can get that going then I am going to call my old teacher and see if she will do a few lessons with me on this piece! 6 years ago
