I was raised Jewish, the grandaughter of concentration camp survivors, but my entire extended family is Irish Catholic. My mother converted when she married my father (and to this day will cross the street when she sees a nun). At every family event all my cousins would perform their dances and as a kid it just never occured to me to ask to learn because it seemed like that would be the same as asking to go to mass or take communion – like I’d be a traitor, rejecting our Black Sheep status -but the longing has never left me…...

I’ve been doing it since I was 11 and have absolutely no plans to stop, even though I’m in university and very busy right now. I love it so much and I will do it until my feet fall off.
I had my first lesson in about 22 years last night. It was so much fun (and I’m so sore today!), and I was pleasantly surprised by how readily it came back since I only took lessons for two or three years.
its fun, hard at first but then it just happens with out you having to think it. For like a month I couldnt do jump-2-3’s if thats what they’re called. But not I do it by accident when i’m running.
