set up a web server

Okay, my torturous experimentation with IIS and (hack, cough) Sharepoint Services is thankfully over. My IT director has been convinced that reverse engineering Sharepoint services to replace FTP is actually a really bad idea.

Now that I’ve sucked her in with a wordpress blog I can embark on setting up an apache web server. But which Linux distro? I remember reading about one that has an installation package all set up with Apache, mySQL, etc., but of course Ubuntu seems to be all the rage. I’m just a web designer…someone hand me a clue! I need to figure out how to add it to a windows domain and hopefully to work well with the kerberos auth we use as well.

Installed Win 2003 on an extra box and installed sharepoint services. I haven’t dealt with DNS yet…so I guess I haven’t technically completed it but I’ve done enough.

It was easier than reinstalling XP on my laptop!

I wish it was a Linux/apache box….that’ll be my next goal!
