Yes Man, gets a serendipitous THUMBS UP 2 months ago

My kids decided to get their dad to download or upload a film of of TiVo though amazon. Well they chose Yes Man with Jim Carry. In the opening scene it takes place in a bar called The Bigfoot lodge located in near Pasadena.Well I just so happen to go there yesterday to see live music!! Such a coincidence. My kids saw my photos that I had just down or up loaded onto my laptop so even they recognized they bars distinctive interior. It looks like a log cabin which was ironic that there were huge fires raging just a few cites over. I got some shots from the front door.

Anyway, we all enjoyed the film. I could not see anyone but Jim Carry playing this character. The female lead reminded me of ME. Even my family agreed. She spoke about how children lose their childlike wonder when they become adults. I did not.

Jim is encouraged to say yes to things that are put before him, things he has been avoiding and saying no to everyday, and in turn he gains new experiences, skills, and new people in his life enriching it.

Just a side note- I was writing little quotes and I just wrote this down this week.
“All people are amazing and each one is put into our path bearing gifts that enrich our life’s experiences.” Dawn

Watched Transporter 3 recently. 2 months ago

I would have to give this film only one thumb up. I like Jason Statham’s action movies and I enjoyed the two previous Transporter movies, but this one goes a little too far over the top, in places. Without ruining the plot, for example, at one point, “Frank” chases after someone in his car by riding a BMX stunt bike. I don’t think that bike can go as fast as it needed to, to keep up with, or even catch up to the car. I know that these films are pure escapism fun, but they should be somewhere within the realm of believability, lol. If you like fast cars, European women and watching Jason Statham’s fight scenes, you will enjoy Transporter 3. ;)

Woman on Top 14 months ago

I give it a thumps up.
I caught Woman on Top the other day on regular TV so it was all edited to death. I’m sure the original was very hot & sexy. It has a cute story and YEA mermaids :D

Penélope Cruz is dressed in Red and has great hair for most of the film.(Side quote says,
“Know, first, who you are; and then dress yourself accordingly.”
    - Epictetus )
Harold Perrineau from LOST & The Matrix is a transgender man is fab at it.(I called Monica’s “surprise” ending)

There are some great lines from the film

Toninho: Isabella, I swear on my mother’s grave, you are the only woman I ever loved.
Isabella: Your mother is still alive.
    Toninho: That’s not the point.

    At cooking class.
    Isabella:Let's start with my passion:
    Chili peppers.
They're from the Americas, and were found here
long before the arrival of Columbus.
Hold them in your hand. Notice the colors.
    Now sniff.
OK, what do you smell? Can you describe the
    sensation?
    How about you?
    Husband:I smell...
a walk on a moonlit beach in Acapulco.
Wife:When did you become a poet?
Husband:What do you expect me to say? It smells like a
    vegetable?

I just found this site with other foodie Movies favs I agree with them on Babbette’s feast was a bore. I turned it off. Something I NEVER do. They did forget 9 1/2 half weeks although it was not centered around food the fridge scene was unforgettable.

If you have a thing for cute nerdy guys then you will like this film. They put in Kate Bosworth so the guys would have a hot chick to look at.

Basically this MIT teacher shows these students how to count cards in Vegas thereby beating the odds. They kept stressing, although this is not illegal it is frowned upon.

The only thing McSmarty TiVo’s is Poker and one of the guys is one of the former MIT students. I used to play Bridge with McSmarty and his College friends but it was not any fun because they all knew what everyone had in each others hand after the biding, plus they could count all the cards. They would yell at me to ” just slough something!” I told them playing cards is supposed to be fun, so I quit and took up cross stitch :P

I give it a thumbs up. If you like the music of The Beatles the did a good job of using their songs and images to tell a story. My fav was, “She came is through the bathroom window.” It’s subtle so you have to listen/watch for it. The male lead Jim Sturgess is such a cutie pie.

We had just watched the film “21” which he was also in but with the addition of the British accent(his normal speaking voice) he became that much cuter :)

I thought that my two kids would be too young for the subjects that they touch upon so I watched it alone. I think I will still wait some time before I let them see it. I find stuff like this opens up some great dialog between us when I least expect it.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Both Thumbs up!! 15 months ago

And not just because RDJr was in it.

It had some great lines in it.

I’m not sure how much to give away or how to explain it but if you like films with twists and turns and that just don’t follow the norm this one is for you :)

Think Pulp Fiction with a dash of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and you will be kinda close.

I just re watched The Princess Bride all the way through from beginning to end for the first time.
It is great for young and old men and women. There is romance and action. The kids picked it out for me for Mother’s Day :Read I payed for it at the check out ;)

The tale is actually being read by a grandfather(Played by Peter Falk of Columbo fame) to his grandson who is stuck sick in bed( Fred Savage you know the kid from the Wonder Years, sorry no Winnie in this film guys)

If you pick up the newest edition, you can keep flipping the DVD cover upside down and it will still read The Princesses Bride! Inconceivable!

A little side note-Chris Sarandon is in TPB, was once Married to Susan Sarandon. If you look at the bottom for the IMb suggestions on the link above, Enchanted which was my other film review starred Susan. How odd?
Just a bit of random trivia for ya :)

Iron Man= Thumbs up and lots of eye candy 18 months ago

RDJr is great in this. He is just the right person to carry off the lines. His Buddy played by Terrence Howard is always good in anything he does and you can see these two being pals. Gwyneth Paltrow looks cute with her freckles and strawberry blond hair.
I went with McSmarty his Brother McGiant and the two little Smarties(ages 11 & 13) and we all enjoyed it.
Watch for the cameo by Stan Lee during the red carpet gala and be sure to stay until after the credits are done if you want a sneak peak into a preview of a possible sequel.
I always stay for the credits. I’m a hard core movie watcher.

Thumbs Down!! :( 18 months ago

To “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead” with Philip Seymour Hoffman and Ethan Hawke. Wow, I was really looking forward to this one because I love both actors and the plot looked original and gritty. These two brothers (Hawke and Hoffman) are both in financial trouble (different issues) and they decide to rob their parent’s jewelry business…and then it goes from there. The movie is frustrating because it keeps flasing back to- “4 days before the robbery”, “1 day before” and then from character to character. Nothing makes sense with the flashbacks and in fact they just make the idea/plot totally forced.
