I find farming to be an incredibly rewarding endeavor.
In particular, I enjoy the Organic CSA/Buy Local movement to be of great interest.
I’ve been so busy getting my dog walking business off the ground that I haven’t had any time to pursue this goal. Oh, what a glorious job. We’d never dream of stopping our dog walking business, but in the future I’d like to hire a manager and see if I would make a good farmer. The local food movement builds community, preserves green space, and is a step in the right direction towards a sustainable future. I really want to be a part of it. I already have all of my seeds and seedlings on order for the spring. I have a killer garden out back. (Really lucky considering I live in the city. Living next to a parking lot means I get a ton of sun in my backyard.) The farmers markets start in a few months and I can’t wait to buy local veggies, jams and poultry.
Sarah Kelly is apple picking in kent...then baking some apple pies ^_^ yumm
I was actually fortunate enough to spend some time up in Greene, New York where my japanese grandmother stays… while I was up there my grandfather took me around the farm and let me milk some of the cows and feed the pigs…hehe… it was a good experience for me considering I was only about 5 or 6 because I believe thats the moment I grew to be an animal lover…
A really life farm! What fun! I want to feed the chickens and milk things. Do they have sheep at this farm? Baaa
ideally, i want to have one, but it would probably be a good idea to actually try it out first.
I grew up on a small ranch/farm, so at the time I didn’t think it was worth it at all, but now looking back on my life I think “Spending a day working on a real-life farm” is definitely worth it. I’ve fed chickens, cow, and pigs, milked a cow, seen countless calves born, done branding, castrating, dehorning, vaccinating, and all that stuff
I’m getting there. I’ve been in contact with a woman who owns an urban farm and trains people on how to start their own urban farm. I’m going to go meet her in a few weeks. I’m more than excited. What an amazing way to make a living.
