I know how to do at least some of the basics, but
(a) I really need to upgrade my browser.
(b) It would really help to have a faster computer and internet connection.
(c) I am not really interested right now in most of the applications I’ve seen, and still have security concerns.
(d) I don’t seem to have much news to report from my rather boring life, nor a camera or photos or videos to share with others, although it’s nice to be able to see the photos of others and read their news.
(e) I can barely keep up with 43 Things, let alone facebook.
(f) Some of my friends and relatives use it constantly, but many others hardly ever use their accounts.
I think for now I’ll be doing well if I can log in at least once a week and check out what’s going on there.
EDIT:
This ongoing article in Slate magazine, Barack Obama’s Facebook Feed, was actually helpful in teaching me some things about facebook, plus I thought it was funny.

All my kids, including the older ones, are on Facebook. I’m going to create a page just so I can keep up with them.

for you who are Facebook power users. Do you have a “routine” you use for your Facebook time at all? I mean do you have a set order you look at things there? To me it feels like there are multiple “inboxes” (in GTD speak) there. I have my Wall, I have my friends’ news feeds, I have my Inbox and notifications, and then there’s what gets forwarded to my email. Some of those overlap of course.
So do you have a methodology/routine for your Facebook time or do you just take it as it comes at you checking different pages and links as you are inspired?

If anyone...

enjoys Facebook and has found a way to keep their online time down to a reasonable level, I would appreciate hearing your tips.
Of course I’m not leaving 43Things so I will need to figure out how to budget my time. I want to be able to participate in both 43T and FB and also act responsibly in my analog life. If you do all of the above I would love to know your suggestions.

russellviii Getting ready for the summer's last vacation
I’m not sure that I want to spend a lot of time with it, but I would like to be able to look in on a few people from time to time.

Several of my friends have been asking me to join Facebook and I had a couple of invitations outstanding, so I finally went for it.
I’ve been looking around and trying to figure out how everything works. One of my friends is helping me out.
This goal includes:
- learning how to navigate the site;
- getting my privacy settings just the way I want them; and
- learning how to manage my time on the site.
I’m not going to dump my entire address book in to connect with every friend I ever knew. Instead I will add people I know more slowly. It was fun searching around though to see who I know is already on Facebook.
