How to travel around europe by ACE1029

"Going through it sometimes sucked. Living through it was amazing.*"

How I did it: I went to London to study abroad, and just made sure that my return flight was 2 weeks after the program ended, giving me both some time and freedom to travel around for a bit. Then, I just researched and booked various hostels, busses, trains, etc. and went to as many countries as I could afford (which was 6 =).

[[*This is something I wrote down on my last night abroad >> The trip was long, stressful, crazy, and sometimes dramatic, but I wouldn't have had it any other way because it was also amazing, freeing, enlightening, and beautiful. It went exactly as it should.]]

Lessons & tips:
1. Money should be spent on experiences, not materialism. Yes, I'm paraphrasing, but it's true. Simply being in Scotland or Paris is amazing. And how many souveniers do you really need? (I say this because I am the Queen of spending money, even though I know better =P)
2. Know that at some point, you will probably snap. It's bound to happen, so deal with it in the best possible way, and then get over it. In my case, I traveled with a friend, and I am also a firm advocator in alone time. Which isn't something you get when you're with someone 24/7 for 2 weeks. Thank gd we are good enough friends to deal, because I couldn't've taken that trip with just anyone.

Resources:
1. Common sense. Seriously. Please. Use it.
2. The internet. Cheaper than a travel agent and just as efficient. And you can research and book everything in your pajamas!
3. Asking people. Most people in the program were scheduled to leave the day after the program ended, and so they traveled during the weekends while we were in school. Since I had time afterwards, that's when I did most of my traveling, so I made sure to ask everyone about their experiences, to gain perspective on where to go and what to avoid.

    I met a girl in a field study who took a bicycling trip through England. That sounds particularly badass. She stayed in a lot of hostels, which is cool. I have an intense hatred towards hotels.

    Fortunately my job brought me to Germany!!! Unfortunately, I work long freakin’ hours so I really can’t see any of it. So when I get a chance, I am going to go everywhere I can.
