One reason why my guitar playing began to wane was that, in 1977, I took up the alto saxophone and began playing jazz. I was tired of and disillusioned with rock, especially when disco and New Wave came into vogue, so I gravitated back toward the music I had heard as a kid.
Well, I played sax for over a decade, and added trumpet in the late eighties. Eventually, trumpet eclipsed my interest in the sax, but some changes of residence, etc. made it difficult to play either, without disturbing the neighbors, so I stopped playing both. Years later, having not played either in quite some time, I sold both horns.
Well, in spite of the fact I live in a townhouse apartment now, I’m thinking I need to get back to playing horns again. Once I get a sax and a trumpet again, I can worry about where I’m going to practice later. Other people’s peace and quiet shouldn’t dictate my musical creativity.
