ramble aimlessly

I spent hours working on a Powerpoint deck for today’s management meeting. Turned out we spent two hours talking about the same old crap and arriving at the same old conclusion (which is a big fat no-brainer, status quo-ish decision).

What a waste of time! The only saving grace is my ability not to whine and bitch about this and maintaining some semblance of good graces, especially when my boss quipped, “I bet today’s minutes will be very short!”. Haha.. funny, NOT!

Yes, I happen to take those bloody minutes on a weekly basis.

..to catch up with email, screen a few resumes, update my logs and review last Tuesday’s meeting minutes, I am really, really exhausted!

They blocked all instant messaging protocols and client at the office last week. Nothing works now, not even the most obscure chat clients. I find this recent development very oppressive. How else can I keep in touch with my friends now.. unless I resort to more deliberate means like, actually calling them.

Too much drama for a Monday morning.

..near my neck, and now I’m all pissy and whiny. Sucks!

..when I let my guard down, I would silently admit that I just want to be happy.

..when the object of my affection is also the poison that kills me slowly…

Warded off afternoon lethargy. The coffee before lunch must have helped (my dependency on caffeine is increasing but not yet at worrying levels).

Tried as I may, I needed to first list down stuff I need to do. Quite alarming that I am not able to just do things. Spontaneity is not my virtue, my dependency on lists however suggest a strong need for structure. But structure and order are good, especially when without it, I am driven to aimless distraction and mindless wandering (both in thought and deed).

I’ve cleared my Inbox. Finally got around to editing my friend’s resume. He owes me no doubt, but I’ll call in that favour when I have to. Kinda proud that I finally got this done, despite his email sent on 28th May. Hey.. I’ve been busy! :p

The day is perfect. It’s quiet and peaceful. I’m not too tired nor am I as restless as I usually am. Weekend insomniac is a tedious thing, left unattended one is bound to get sucked into a downward spiral, or worse still, auto-pilot and mindless spending.

I am armed with the perfect soundtrack. The Shins have graced me with both “Oh Inverted World” as well as “Chutes too Narrow”. I skipped Coldplay, Chris Martin doesn’t seem to have the same effect on me these days. But for the sake of this rare tranquility, I opted not to add Muse to my playlist. Ah yes, Death Cab for Cutie.. under-rated and under-hyped. They would do perfectly. I really should get more bands for this genre. They’re my audio anti-depressant, my musical Prozac. And my friends say I’m too set in Muse to appreciate anything else, goes to show just how much they know me, if at all.

..to a day where fuel price has gone up from RM 1.92 to RM 2.70 per liter. That’s about 84 cents USD. I don’t know if that’s cheap or not compared to others. I just know that I’m about to spend a lot more on fuel and I’m pretty pissed about that. I need to figure out how to beat this crazy fuel price hikes. Probably major lifestyle changes. :S

I reiterate my undying affection for Jason Mraz; singer, performer, songwriter. His new CD continues his fabulous penmanship and penchant for beautiful melodies. But this man sounds simply divine performing live.

One of the tracks on his new album is “Love for a Child” which narrates the perspective of a child from a broken home. It reminds me of my son and this strikes a chord each time I hear this tune.
