i fell into a conversation with an old friend from my tex-mex past and out of nowhere i asked him if he spoke spanish. he began to speak the language so beautifully, i felt a huge pang of jealousy slice me in the chest. the kicker is that i understood most of what he said and could respond in english as the conversation went on.
well, that did it. i jumped online and found a tutor who’ll give me lessons every week for a nominal fee.

if i supplement those lessons with schoolbooks and tapes and make every effort to speak spanish in my spanish-speaking neighborhood and friends, i’ll be off the ground in no time. all that spanish i took in high school will come back to me like it never left in the first place (because it didn’t). and i’ll be bilingual. FINALLY.
