K~ carpe diem
I’m not avoiding it anymore and I thus get a lot of practice. I still want to be able to park the car without thinking and correcting it too much. It’s going pretty well right now, but it could be a lot better.
How I did it: Practice, practice, practice!
It's easy to take a parking spot somewhere down the street, but it made me relieved to know that I can get the car into any parking lot I want without getting too nervous.
Lessons & tips: I took out the book I got when I took driving lessons again and practiced with it. After a while I got a bit more used to the car and these silly sounding rules and I didn't had to think too much any more.
(This Smart is not my car! =))

K~ carpe diem
I was already proud of myself for trying this at all (although I’ve tried a lot more since I’ve added this goal) and also for being so damn parralel without having to correct.
...And then I hit the tree…
I was so focused on being paralle and parking at all that I didn’t look in the rear mirror for things or trees in my back.
(Luckily we have an appointment next week to get the car fixed. One little spot more shouldn’t be a problem)
...put your car side by side to the car directly in front of the space you want to park in. You should be sideview mirror to sideview mirror.
Assuming that you are parking on the right side of the road with an automatic car then you’ll turn your steering wheel until its stopping point while your foot remains on the brake.
Once the wheel can’t turn anymore, you slowly release the brake and back into the space® until your back tire gently touches the sidewalk.
Now go in drive (D) for about a half metre then turn the wheel in the complete opposite direction (yes, ALL the way).
At this point, it’s all a matter of repeating the above two steps until you’re comfortably in the space.
