The skirt is finished. 15 months ago

And here’s a picture of me wearing it. But I’ll tick this off after I’ve worn it in public. That is, tomorrow in work. Wooooooooooooooooooooohoooooooooooooooo!

Almost done! 15 months ago

I’ve fixed the upper hem, but it turns out the skirt is too big. I’ll have to tweak it a little, still.
Tomorrow night, when my bf’s out, I think I’ll finish it.

Been busy with this. 15 months ago

I’ve finished cleaning off the seams and I have hemmed in the bottom. It’s not 100% amazingly accurate sewing, but it’s good enough for my standard. Can’t wait to finish it and wear it. Yay!

Progress! Progress! Progress! 15 months ago

I attached the pieces to each other, included the zipper and adjusted the seams to fit the skirt to my body. I only needed 6 instead of seven pieces of fabric, I completely overstimated my size. It needs still a little tweaking, but the general shape looks like I planned.
Because I was a bit generous with the fabrics, it’s a bit flamenco-esque, but I like it. It’s very romantic looking.
I started cleaning up the seams, and in my head, I have figured out how I want the top to work. There will be a hem around the top, which will have a gap above the zipper, where the hem will turn into two straps of fabric which I can tie into a little bow.

Finished cutting. 15 months ago

I cut out the 14 pieces to make up the seven swirls.
I haven’t made up my mind yet about how to do the top, but I know I can use the old skirt as a guide. I want to add a bow to tie it in the back to hang over the zipper. But that’s how I picture it now, let’s see how it will go.

I've started. 15 months ago

Since I have about 2 cubic metres of fabric leftovers, I decided to do something with them and get sewing.
I have never made a piece of clothing, but heck, how hard can it be?!?
I want to re-create an old skirt I loved to wear. It’s made up of 5 identical pieces that are shaped like a swirl (see Fig.1). The swirls themselves are made out of two pieces. If they are attached to each other the top of the skirt is almost straight, the bottom gets wider and wider. I calculated that I need 7 instead of 5 pieces (did I mention I gained a lot of weight since I wore the old skirt?).
So I cut the seams of one piece and created a pattern. I cut out the first 3 of seven pieces of fabric.
