Have 6-12 months expenses in savings

In order to meet this goal I need to figure out how much money I want to save for 1 month. I’ll have to look at my budget at home but I think the number is somewhere around $2000 with luxuries and $1000 without.

I’ve been running some budget numbers and overall the news is good as long as I’m not laid off. I’m unsure how much of my worry about that is old (I’ve been laid off before and I’m new in my job). I’m also unsure if I should save a bit and then start tackling my debts seriously or if the savings I would get from paying off debts would be more valuable right now. I’m not sure how to make the call but I’m thinking about it. More later.

This will help me feel more secure in case I lose or quit my job.

It is also just good sense in the coming bad economic times.
