My television and my video recorder are now to the repairman’s, to be detunerized.
How to throw the television out of the window
How I did it: I gave up TV a couple of times in the past, but it crept back into my life. The second last time I moved house I moved in on my own and I didn't own a TV....and I just didn't buy one! It was hard to leave my DVD player and xbox behind, but I can still watch DVDs on my PC if I want to. It's just really nice not to be advertised at all day long. :)
Lessons & tips:
- I try to listen to the radio in the morning to get the news without turning my PC on.
- Audiobooks - fantastic! Now I can paint or cook dinner and listen to a book at the same time. You can even download the classics for free!
- People will still contantly talk to you about what they watched on TV last night. If you listen along anyway, you'll know what is worth buying on DVD later. :)
- I seem to have more spare cash than I used to. I think this is because now I don't even know what it is that I *should* be buying.
- Lots of great educational/documentary type shows are streamed online for free. You don' t have to miss out on stuff that is worthwhile watching.

I don’t really want to throw it out the window, I just don’t want to have this addictive drug within sight. So I decided to desinstall the tuner, to continue to see DVDs, but to stop paying the TV licence fee. I have the phone number of a technician who does that, but I didn’t call him yet…
