I have had only a couple of minor bouts of itching and noticed a small, occasional sore or two. Part of the healing process?
I’m wondering how long I should wait before I consider my scalp healed… maybe a full year on account that certain symptoms may have been seasonal?
so, on aug 31 2009, we’ll see how I feel about it.
ps – using egg whites as shampoo at the gym / on vacation is challenging!

My hair is soft and my scalp is not itchy, I have no sores or scabs right now.
I’m going to give this some time and see how it goes. I’m not sure how I would wash my hair using this egg white method while on vacation, for instance.

I researched my options, found that the key is to use a gentle alkaline first, then a gentle acid. I then tried a shampoo alternative yesterday with great results. My hair is soft and clean and smells nice.
It sounds strange, but it was: egg whites, rinse,
then banana mashed with egg yolk,
(then loads of conditioner to help get the banana out –
please don’t put mashed banana in your hair!) rinse,
then strong black tea, rinse. Rinsing with lukewarm
water so as not to cook the eggs.
I think I’m going to try to stream line it to egg whites (alkaline), a gentle conditioner (to reduce tangles), and strong black tea (acid).
My scalp has gotten worse recently (stress!) and I want to try everything to get it better. I hope quitting shampoo helps.

I think it’s more than my scratching at it – I am considering quitting shampoo, I’ve heard that can help with scalp irritation.

I don’t scratch my head so much anymore, and I don’t have pain from the sores, the sores are going away… but I seem to be scratching the spot on my leg more often now… hmm… time to focus on that goal

When I get stressed, I scratch my head, this leads to sores, which become scabs, which get scratched off when i scratch my head. it is a cycle, and I have recently vowed to stop scratching (I still am compelled to touch my head when stressed, but I am consciously massaging instead of scratching. also, my partner is helping me put first aid ointment on the sores before bed. what a sweetheart!
