today’s Write-a-thon raised $34,000 for writing programs for at-risk and marginalized youth and adults throughout New York. As I learned today, the NYWC also provides workshops for Veterans and the elderly. This is a lean organization with a long reach, so the money will go a long way to improve quality of life for a lot of people. Thanks again!

I am off soon to pick up a friend and catch the train to Manhattan for the New York Writer’s Coalition Write-a-thon. I’ve got my laptop, eco-friendly reusable coffee mug :), a head full of ideas, and hopefully the words to express them. My ass is history! LOL
Thank you to the generous 43Ters who donated to this worthy cause (you know who you are), and to those who cheered or commented in support of this endeavor. In supporting the NYWC you are investing in the transformative power of language, and in the lives of people who need it. Your support will help the NYWC fund writing programs for previously homeless and at-risk youth and adults. There are few greater gifts than the power of expression, and your generous donations help give that gift, the gift of voice, to those who need empowerment.
I will be thinking of you, my friends, as I go about my day. Thank you again.

I received a postcard in the mail yesterday. On one side, all it said was “WRITE YOUR ASS OFF.” On the other was information on an organization called the NY Writers Coalition, that is having its third annual Write-a-thon to raise money to fund creative writing programs for honeless and at-risk youth, seniors, and others without a voice. The day-long event takes place May 17 in Manhattan. The idea is that people pay me to write! I solicit pledges for the cause, and then spend the day honoring those pledges by gathring with others to write my ass off.
I am working to form a local team of writers to help this worthy cause. I work in the inner city, with so many who lack voices, empowerment. I have witnessed the power of words to heal and uplift. For me, this is a no-brainer. People need these programs, maybe not for their sustenance, but for their quality of life.
I will not post a website, nor make a mass plea. Anyone interested in participating, through donation or writing, PM me, and I’ll direct you.
