Watch the top 250 movies on the Internet Movie Database

I’ve been at 97/98% for a while now due to new theatrical releases jumping onto the list on a pretty constant basis. I have recently seen some of the new(er) additions that hit DVD such as Gran Torino, The Wrestler, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, all of which I liked to varying degrees.

The three films on the current list that I have not seen are: Up, Star Trek, and The Hangover. The Hangover is the kind of movie I tend not to watch by choice. I’m interested in seeing “Up,” but I rarely go see childrens’ films in the theater because . . . well, the theater is full of children! Noisenoisenoisenoisenoise. Did see Finding Nemo three times at the theater though.

At first, I thought there would be some 20 second time period where not one brand new movie would hit the list and I’d be 250/250 and count this done, but after having this goal for as long as I have, I don’t think that will happen. Part of me thinks “Oh just go see them and be done with it all because if you wait, new theatrical movies will come onto the list and you will never see 250/250.” I’d have to go to all three alone. (Sigh.)

I had also watched The Sixth Sense (numerous times because we studied it for GCSE, how did I forget?), Finding Nemo and I am sure there was another one on the list, but I will find it next time.

I watched Donnie Darko tonight. It was a good film, maybe a tad overated, but Jake Gyllenhaal makes up for it :)

I think I might watch Ratatouille tomorrow or Wall-E.

If you watch about 1 film a week, it will take 5 years to complete this goal!!! I think I might have a movie marathon after my exams

I’m getting through the list very well. I saw the first 39 movies so far. I have “lawrence of arabia” coming and I’m going to see “On the Waterfront” tonight. 2 movies “The kid” and “Roman Holiday” were pretty amazing, while I didn’t get “the bridge on the river kwai” and “snatch”. The last two movies were entertaining ,but I don’t know if they are top 250 material.

So I will keep this entry as a record. I have seen hardly any of the top 250 movies!!!! It’s mad. Some of them I don’t think deserve to be in the top movies.

The site I used to use to track my progress appears to be down again, and has been for quite a while now. So I’ve made an alternative site for tracking progress with the IMDb list: http://mytopfilms.net

It’s still in the early stages, but does track updates to the IMDb list. You just need to sign up and then you can keep track of your progress too.

Adding other lists will be possible soon for things like Film4’s top 50, AFI’s top 100, etc. etc.

I’m working on a forum installation now, but please contact me on here with any suggestions, bug reports, ideas until that’s running.
