When I went to New York last weekend, I felt like seeing the Statue of Liberty was something I had to do whether I really wanted to or not. I did wonder if after waiting in a long line and being crammed into a ferry for a 20 minute ride or so with a bunch of tourists whether the payoff would ultimately be worth it. However, I was not at all disappointed with the experience. Seeing the statue in person was in fact more impressive than I was expecting it to be. I walked around Liberty Island and just admired the statue a while as I listened to the chatter in many languages and accents of the other vistors around me as they also marvelled at the statue. I’m happy it was a clear, beautiful day (see the photo I took).
I’m wondering if I can add another name to the list of states that I have visited. It seems that the island on which the Statue of Liberty resides is in the New Jersey portion of Hudson River, and Liberty Island is in fact geographically much closer to the New Jersey shore than it is to New York. I don’t know… maybe I’ll need to plan a seperate trip to New Jersey to get the full experience. Would it be worth it though? I’ve heard it said somewhere (I can’t remember where) that even the Statue of Liberty turns her back on New Jersey… It’s true; she faces toward the Empire State and away from the Garden State…

I live fairly close to the city, yet I’ve never really seen any of the touristy things there…this summer we’re going to try and go…

My husband and I took a trip this summer and we saw the Statue of Liberty, which was really amazing to me. I could only imagine what it was like when people had been on a ship for so long and then finally saw the Lady of Liberty. It gave me chills.

I saw it when I was very young, about 5 or so, but it was incredible enough that it made a lasting impression on me. I remember the inside being very nice. :)

Its well worth it. If you are in the Big Apple make sure you see The Statue of Liberty. Its absolutely amazing, and very surreal. As mentioned expect long lines, and airport like security before you get onto the ferry. Take it in stride though because it just doesn’t matter. She’s magnificent!

AMAZING!
I only saw it from a speed boat, as they weren’t letting people on the island.
I have pictures of my time in New York – all i can say is that pictures can’t describe the magical feeling of walking down the streets of one of the greatest cities on earth.
The Statue of Liberty is beautiful – a must see if you go to New York:)

I saw the statue in 1984 when you could still walk to the top and look out from the crown.
Very cool experience.

Go online and get ferry tickets and time passes two days ahead of time. Set aside one whole day for Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. You have to stand in long lines and go through multiple security scans. It is totally worth it! Go first thing in the morning.
