I took my daughters up the mist trail in July! It was awesome! it was one of the hardest hikes I have done in a long, ling time though. I learned that I need to bring specific things.
It's a fairly strenuous hike. Bring water, snakc food, and light clothes. I also packed a poncho (because you get soaked) to use on the way up. it was really hot in August, so we really needed the water to cool down. Plan on it taking a couple hours to get up there. There were people pushing strollers up the trail, although I have no idea what they were thinking. There are a set of steps to go up, so that's about where the strollers will stop I guess.I think if you get there - take this hike! Wear great shoes, bring water, a camera in a pack, a poncho, food for a picnic lunch at the top (but pack out your trash). I had a gourmnet lunch packed (at about 25 extra pounds in my pack) that was a chore to carry up - but my group loved me when I surprised them and pulled it all out. Everyone was looking at us, eating a great lunch while they snacked on nuts and plain white sandwiches at best. It’s a great way to spend half a day! Here is a picture I took on the way up… above the misty part of the falls.
