Looking for a drum circle in or around Tampa... 2 years ago

I just saw this story about how good drumming is for the circulation, stress relief and our overall health, plus it’s a lot of fun. I’ve heard of drum circles at Clearwater Beach… Is there anyone who knows of a regular drum circle in the Tampa area???

Isn't it beautiful? 3 years ago

I was admiring my drum and thought I’d post a picture of it…

The carving is of an adinkra symbol called Sankofa, meaning “We must go back and reclaim our past so we can move forward; so we understand why and how we came to be who we are today.”

I have the drum... 3 years ago

I had it made while I was a student in Ghana. I took drumming lessons while in Africa, but have forgotten most of what I learned. I have a new friend that I met at my favorite salsa dancing spot and he drums with a group here in LA. He’s going to hook me up with someone who can teach me (or maybe teach me himself, I’m not sure)

Anyway, I’m on my way to learning how to play my Djimbe…

There is nothing to learn 3 years ago

There is nothing to learn – the best way is to sit in an African drum circle, close your eyes, and let the rhythm take you.

Lots of cheers for this lately 3 years ago

So thought I’d give you an entry. Can’t afford to buy a drum let alone lessons at the moment :( But we do play atabaque at capoeira so I am getting practice at this, if only for the most part with just the one rythym :) Will try and learn the Samba and the maculele rythyms when our capoeira lessons start up again.
