We are planning on saving this year and either buying a house or getting a campervan!
How to buy a campervan
How I did it: I gave up my postgraduate course, got the fees refunded, and used them to buy a campervan on ebay.
Made the mistake of being too excited too quickly and just bought the first one that looked cute.
On eBay it said it all worked fine, but when we got it, it was another story. It needed a new gearbox. Much of the engine needed replacing.
Also, it was small and I am tall. I couldn't sit up in the back.
Fortunately, the person we'd outbid on eBay really wanted the campervan. So we got in touch and sold it to them.
We made a big loss, but seeing a campervan on our driveway each morning whilst we had it gave me a huge smile.
Lessons & tips:
- Check it out before you buy it
- Take a mechanic with you
- Don't believe everything the seller says
- Take the plunge!

wootiecat_H is having a day off to get better
So currently I am putting 150 away each week and once i have a couple thousand i will start looking for a van. Im also clearing all debts and keeping out of new debt so that when i get the van i can set it up sweet for me and the kids to take off whenever wherever we want without money issues. I am also training myself to live simply on as little as possible so we can travel around stopping to work when i need to and want to.
I finally borght my campervan. shes a beauty a converted St johns Ambulance. I got her on ebay but gumtree.co.uk is also good especially in december. I have yet to take her on her maiden voyage but its gunna happen soon. Im hoping end of January. love.
I’m going to get my debts paid off and start socking extra money away, and next Summer I am going to buy a campervan. Well, next Spring actually, hopefully, or maybe late summer. Anyway, K and I can then restore it and use it to go camping, go on holiday, etc etc. Should be fun! We can even take it abroad and go to places like Spain, Italy, Greece, etc!
