I have a pet tortoise, his name is Bailey and he’s about a year old! They are really nice to sit and watch!
I’ve been “researching” having a pet turtle and have found some information that makes me sad for turtles everywhere – you aren’t supposed to touch them. What a horrible lot in life to be a pet that can’t be touched all because you might carry a horrible disease! The sadness! I’m not sure if I want a “viewing turtle”. I kinda wanted a “let it roam around on the rug for a bit whilst I pet it’s shell turtle.” So this goal might have to be on permanent hold while I find out if I can get a disease free turtle. Wish me, and the turtle, luck.
I’ve wanted a turtle ever since I was little and I read SuperFudge. I’m hoping one day when I get myself settled in one place I can get one. I want to name him Cecil.
I had a pet turtle when I was a little girl. It’s name was Spunky:) My dad brought it home to me—I guess he found it in the wild somewhere. I didn’t have Spunky long because we ended up letting him/her(?) go, but I still remember it and think it was a really neat thing. Don’t forsee getting another one anytime soon…my cats wouldn’t give it any peace! But it’s something I’ll never forget:)
I’ve always loved seeing turtles in the wild, whether I see them in a pond, lake, creek or ocean. The idea of having one in the captivity of my home I’m not sure of, it seems like they belong out in nature, doing turtle business in the ecological scheme of things. But then, I know that their in mortal danger from car traffic and hungry predators, so they will be safe with me, as long as I am a well-informed and diligent pet keeper. I have happy turtle memories of being surprised to see one when I least expected it, but somehow needed to.
Symbolically, I bought my husband a stuffed turtle doll to remind him to be patient with me, I’ll eventually make a decision or get my a** in gear in my own time. And through a grueling series of moves, it helped me to know that I can be home wherever I go, like the turtle who carries his home on his back. So, the mighty turtle has served me well!
