...to make room for other priorities.
I do hope to learn this skill someday. It seems a fine complement to knitting, as well as meditative and creative.

augustejacquelynn is waiting to go get Wade from work.
I have a white American fuzzy lop mix rabbit. I’ve been collecting her hair for the last few weeks while she sheds her winter coat, and I would love to learn how to make yarn from it. Then I’d make a beanie hat or blanket or something out of it, so a piece of her could be with me forever.
There is a spinning class at the local weaver’s guild in two weeks. It runs about $60, which is a little steep for me right now. Is it worth it?
Flycello is having a wonderful year!
I’m working on my first yarn on a drop spindle, but am already craving a wheel of my own. I love it!
I taught myself from information I found on the internet. I can spin both with a spindle, and with a wheel.
I just got my spinning wheel and am trying to figure it out. When I have time I will take some lessons but I don’t want to wait that long!!
wooleyduck is planning for a lot of change in 2009.
So very much worth it. Beginner’s kits with drop spindles and roving are not very expensive. I now have two drop spindles and a homemade kick spindle. I haven’t yet completely finished a full skein but I am in love with spinning. I will own a wheel someday I’m sure.

By all reports, spinning is at least as satisfying and meditative as knitting.
After working with words all day, I find that I crave a balancing activity that isn’t about words. Knitting has been one such activity that I’ve enjoyed. Although it’s been a while since I’ve knitted with any regularity, I expect to return to it at some point when I have more spare time – and a comfortable chair to spend it in.
For now, I’ll keep spinning on my 43T list to remind me that I want to resume working with my hands as and when I can.
I’ve been knitting since I was 5 years old and have made everything from socks to afghans, sweaters, mittens and hats. I’ve wanted to spin for years but I didn’t realize all I needed was a simple drop spindle. I thought I needed a spinning wheel and they’re too expensive! Tonight I’ve ordered a beginners kit with instructions, drop spindle and 8 oz of roving. I’m excited.

Lisa asks,
“Are there internet sites that have video of how to do this? Any books you would recommend?”
