be good at my job

I was made a permanent staff member a couple of weeks ago, yay! So I must be doing well. I asked for a review and it was scheduled for last week, but my TL was off sick and she didn’t reschedule when she got back, and now she is on holiday for 2.5 weeks…

I feel like I know what I am doing now. Last week I even did a bit extra than usual, as in the “expert” dept there was only one person on Friday instead of 3, so I did a bit of negotiating and calculating instead of putting the customers through. Go me.

I think I need to negotiate a payrise at some point. I am on the lowest pay in my band so there is a lot of room for a raise.

Okay, I’m done.

Not liking this job this week. In fact for well over a month. What to do?

I had a good week. I listened in on a few calls and since then I’ve been taking them on my own again. I’ve been asking a lot of questions and messed up once or twice but it’s fine. Funny thing is, I’m only taking the same amount of calls as before when I only had one skill! The wrap ups are really complicated and need detailed notes.

I scored 97.6% on my test! I dropped two half marks. I’m super happy.

I’ve been on a course at work for most of this week, have my final exam tomorrow!

My TL has been teaching it and there are only 3 of us, I’ve been putting my hand up to give answers all the time and she called me a worse geek than her. She told two other TLs and they asked me a few questions which I knew the answers to, yay!

Today I feel rather disheartened. One of the “expert” people I call for consultation and advice (basically my job is the person between switchboard and expert, I answer basic stuff and refer the complex stuff) got frustrated with me on the phone as I kept calling for people who were in meetings/away from their desks, he asked why I didn’t check the schedule. I told him I’m new but nonetheless he was annoyed. I feel like I should be getting more support, no one checks on me, I could be giving all sorts of bad advice or bad service. I think tomorrow I’ll talk to the TL who was good to me last week. Mine was working from home today, and tomorrow. Loads of people are off sick, I slept really badly last night and everything got on top of me today and is stressing me out. I didn’t wear my BBB for the first time today, that can’t be coincidence.

Today I felt really good about giving advice and a spent quite a while explaining things to a customer, at the end of the call she thanked me for being so helpful! That made me feel great.

I have my own desk starting tomorrow, instead of camping out on the desk of whoever is off.

I am totally having fun at work. It sounds boring but I am making it fun. I laugh a lot, flirt a lot, liven the place up a bit. One guy from the IT pod at the other end of the office keeps coming down to my pod because I’m such a positive person! I smile all day and twirl around on my chair when I’m not busy. For the past couple of days I’ve actually felt competent, like I’ve given the right advice and handled things in the right way. My TL said that I’m doing well as they basically threw me in the deep end taking calls on my own for 3 days as people have been off sick.

I’m always in a good mood when I leave work. This is great!

I have been taking calls alone for the past couple of days. I took 24 today! It feels good to be useful and not just sitting around shadowing people.

On Thursday I got to be on the reception desk instead of listening in on phone calls. It was super fun and I learned a lot, and the team leader there was amazing and explained so much to me. I think word spread that I was really happy as on Friday I was out there again in the morning. In the afternoon I was supposed to taking calls and I was very glad I had already had that face to face customer contact or I would have been nervous. But in the end, I didn’t actually take any calls as none came in about the things I had been trained in! So I just enjoyed the afternoon, was a bit raucous which turned a few heads (in a good, oh-she-is-settling-in-well kind of way), laughed a lot. I felt really relaxed and Friday-ish.

The other team leader gave great feedback about me to the manager, saying I was like a sponge soaking up everything he told me. And my buddy told my own TL that I did a great job on reception and was really helpful. The other staff on there said it was good I was so keen and had a big smile all the time. I told the the big boss how much I had enjoyed that and she said she knew I liked to get stuck in. I told the other TL on my way out on Friday that I had texted J on Thursday saying, “I had a GREAT day!” and he was really pleased, he said he hoped that soon I’d have a great day every day:)
