I spent a few minutes talking to hubby about strategy. He agreed with me that I should not get into any discussions with her.

When I heard her car in the driveway, I waited will she turned it off (no use getting run over) and went out, carrying her last check and a bag of things that were hers.

I went to the window, said, “Here is your final paycheck and your things. I won’t need your services any more. I do need my house key and my garage door clicker. She gave me the items and said “Okay.” Not a word of argument. She must have been expecting this.

I said, “I appreciate everyhting you have done. Good luck.” And I went back inside the house.

I told Nick, “Job done.”

He said, “Thank you.”

“Why are you thanking me?”

Well, Whether you know it or not, that took a bit of courage.”

I laughed. “Yea, it sure did.”

I talked to hubby about how I should do this, since he has experience in hiring and firing.

He said to talk to her face to face, make it short and sweet, and tell her exactly why.

I am going to follow all the advice except “exactly why.” In conversations past, she has asked me for specifics and when I have given them, she has done the “I did not” and “You were mistaken” routines. I am not going to get into any rounds of “I did not! you did too!”

I am going to thank her for all she has done, because she really did do a great job for about a year. But the bottom line is that this is the end of the road.

Less than half an hour to go. . . wish me luck, all!
