The piano is fighting me

Been doing far more piano repair than piano practice. The good news is – the lovely wife started a savings account for a new piano. So someday I’ll be doing far less piano repair.

My mom convinced me to read “Grand Obsession” and now I hate my piano… I’ve become much more sensitive to it being out of tune and every time I sit down to practice I spend 15min tuning, get frustrated and walk away.

Made it to line nine today – In the last video I decided to stop playing it from the beginning and focus on the section being learned. This will cut down on the length of video I need to upload etc.
At my current rate I should be done before opening day – but I fear there are some hard parts coming up that might take a lot more time then what I’ve laid down to date.
I am very much enjoying this goal BTW: It’s motivated me to find all the missing ivory chips from the keyboard and fix them. Who knows – I might get the piano tuned someday soon!

Check it out: Not only did I make a spreadsheet to track the goal (easier to plan than do), but I incorporated a youtube recording of me playing the first line in the spreadsheet.

Working on piano piece one line at a time

I’m not sure what reminded me of this one – but I finally dug out my copy of the sheet music and put it on the piano. Played through the first line.
I need to decide an appropriate rate to learn this song at – a certain number of lines per month kind of thing.
I suppose I’ll count the lines in the piece, decide on a date I’d like to know it by, and do the math. I figure “Before I’m 40” is a pretty good goal on this one.
26 lines in the first movement.
60 line in the second movement.
28 in the third movement.
For a total of 114 lines. Yikes.
Just did the math = Mini Goal 1 = A movement a year
