Currently wearing Vibram KSO’s when running on trails. Will start going barefoot when running on the streets. All my races for now on are going to be barefoot or wearing KSO’s.

I’m living in a city so going completely barefoot sounds maybe a bit too extreme for now. So, I ended up buying a pair of Vibram Five Fingers KSOs, and have been really happy with them!

It’s not quite the same as going completely barefoot, but close enough to be the first step along the path to becoming a barefoot runner :)

I’ve been walking & running in my socks on the treadmill for about a month at the gym to strengthen my feet. So far so good! When the weather permits I also take an occasional barefoot walk outside on the sidewalk to toughen the soles of my feet.

It’s going well – when I first started this, various muscles in my feet were tired after just a minute or two. Now I can stay on the treadmill averaging about 3 mph for almost 40 minutes. I’m still going very slowly, but gradually speeding things up and gradually increasing the amount of jogging vs. walking.

Tried it! 16 months ago

Did a few hundred metres – running with the dog. Felt a bit weird but I can see how it reworks the running style. You can’t be a heel striker when running barefoot.

I give up. 2 years ago

This is just not going to happen living in a city. Too much broken glass, rusty nails, wood splinters, you name it. Too much construction for me to be running around outside without shoes on. Too much construction around here is a good thing. It means that the residents of this city are making progress on rebuilding their lives.

Now painting barefoot, that’s something I can do.

I ran 2 laps of the track last night barefoot, at the end of a 3 mile run. The track was hot and my feet were a bit tender for the rest of the night, but it was worth it!

To count this goal as complete I would like to run either 5 miles or a race of at least 5k barefoot. Any surface counts. No shoes, not even sandals, allowed!

When I moved from England to Malaysia we had to run the 100 meters barefoot during school sports day. I remember winning. (luckily it was on the field)
