smmopah is back at it
with my sister to celebrate her 60th birthday. The only road block would be getting the permit. There is a lottery. Hopefully we get in.
I have done many long distance races. 12-24 hour triathlons, however I know equiptment; this leads to a great deal of success. I have no idea about equiptment needed for this climb. I am wanting to summit and get down in 1 day, I am up for tails’/ what do I need to know. No stories please. Just equiptment. What do you all think I need besides a camelback?
THANKS ALL!!!!
It was long and it was hard, but absolutly awesome. Also, I now have bragging rights! Although I have no idea how some people do this in a day….. crazy!
We completely won the lotto on this one and managed to get permits for the entire Labor Day weekend!
I originally climbed Whitney back in 04, but it was done hastily in a day. This time we are going to do a leisure trip and enjoy all the sceneries along the way. The main plan is to camp at Trail Camp on day one and catch a summit sunrise on day two. Should be fun!
transposedocean is working!
I want to meet a marmot!
I climbed Mt. Whitney many years ago and we sleep on the summit. It was calm and clear and you could see for ever. If you do this climb you will remember it forever.
The climb doesn’t seem near as hard as the logistical nightmare of getting a backcountry permit to camp/climb. We’re having to try and climb it in one day since we missed out on the Febrary lottery to get a July or August multi-day permit. We’ll try for a walk-in permit once we get there – maybe someone will chicken out.
