I missed class today :(
It’s okay though, I will fill in the midterm review sheet and go into the language center and work in there for an hour to get up to par.
I will also go into the teachers office hours to ask her some specific questions.
How to become fluent in Italian
How I did it: I studied Italian for 2 years in high school and 2 years at university. I also studied abroad for a semester in Rome. I was also very motivated to learn the language, so I tried to learn from every available source: novels, films, random encounters with people in the street.
Lessons & tips: To really become fluent you need to be immersed in the language. Go to Italy and force yourself to converse with locals. Yes, you will make mistakes. Yes, in a few situations you will look downright foolish. But you will learn 3 times more than what you would have learned otherwise.
Resources: Textbooks, classes, and shamelessness.

I’m taking Italian 101 and plan to take Italian 102, as well as studying abroad in Italy.. cross your fingers :)
I’m so proud of myself for having the discipline to do the chapters everyday. I would want to take a formal course someday but I just don’t have the time right now.
Today, I had a breakfast session with one of the bank’s senior leaders. She mentioned something about kaizen, a japanese technique about continuous improvement and this was something that really resonated with me—-as this is what I’ve been trying to do with learning Italian. I do a part of a chapter a day, and try to finish a whole chapter each week. Hopefully, by the end of the book, I can really understand, read and write in Italian and I get the opportunity to either work or study in Italy.
And so far so good. I’m in Chapter 3 of my book already. Hoping to finish chapter 5 by the end of May and then the rest of the book by September. I really want to and speak Italian fluently…something tells me that I’ll be living in Milan and Florence in the near future. :-)
It’s going to happen, I know it…
Stormygirl getting stuff done!
I am definitely on my way to achieving this one – I’d say i’m 1/4 of the way there.
I am currently studying Italian as part of my degree from the University of Reading and in the 6 months I’ve been studying it I have come such a long way. I would really love to speak it fluently.
eminalovee & man your loves like a nuclear weapon-lil waynee. < 3
i’ve always wanted to go to italy. maybe even study there for a year or two ? knowing the language would definetly help, with studying and with those cute italian boys =)
I’m currently reading the book Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gisbert and I’m completely inspired to learn Italian again. The book is her memoir about her soul-searching in Italy, India and Indonesia for a year. I’m still in the Italy part and I have to say, she has convinced me to live there just to learn Italian and the very fine art of pleasure.
I speak intermediate Italian right now and within the next few years I would like to be completely fluent
