get those weird refunds I've been procrastinating on

I got an email back from the bathrobe people and the bathrobe is definitely lost in the mail and they are backordered on it anyway, so they refunded my money…

When I went to the Galapagos, we spent a few nights at a hotel in Quito and while I’d arranged it through Travelocity, the hotel had missed one day in my reservation. Through the magic of the internet, I told Travelocity about it while I was still in Ecuador, but it took them until last Friday to actually approve and process it. I had receipts for both ends of the transaction and it was pretty cut and dried, so it took them from from Dec 26th until May 9th to process something that should be pretty straight forward.

While I was looking through my bank statement today to look for my two refunds, I noticed that I got one of my tax refunds too! Good timing too—we’ll need everything we can get when we close on the house and start selling this one.

I emailed the check image to the state people last night and they got back to me this morning saying that my check hadn’t been credited to my taxes. It was a good thing I asked! Both of my double payment problems are done. I’m just waiting on my bathrobe question. I’ve emailed them but haven’t gotten a response. I would call them right now, but they’re on the West Coast.

Edit: I did call and left a message saying that I, uh, didn’t have my order number handy, but I’d emailed them a few days before. They got back to me by email saying that they have to check with the post office and confirm that it’s a lost cause, and then they’ll send out a new one… I’ll keep this here until I get confirmation, but I think we’re good! I love how setting these little things on my big things list means they get done!

That was pretty easy! I actually got a useful email back in response to my query, and the number at the end of it connected to a real human, the one who’d actually sent the email! I ended up calling my bank for more information, and I think this one is almost done. Once I get home, I have to send the tax people a copy of the back of the check, but then we should be good. As to the other payment? The “check was in the mail”, but never quite got to them, so my bank cancelled it for me and it’ll show up there pretty soon.

I’ve added one more to-do to this list. I ordered a new bathrobe last month and it still hasn’t shown up. It’s coming from Canada with tracking, but I think it’s also in limbo. This morning, I emailed the company to ask about it, so we’ll see what they have to say.

I looked through my bank statement today and noticed that the mortgage one has actually shown up on its own. On to the state tax thing! I called a number on their website but didn’t get though, so I emailed them and will see if they actually get back to me…

I need to look into two things… One, I paid my state taxes twice and two, I got charged twice for something related to my future mortgage. It’d be nice if that money showed up on its own, but I have a feeling I need to ask for it back…
