How I did it: I guess that being unemployed and receving unemployment benefits was a blessing in disguise, in my particular case. I found out I could transfer my unemployment benefits out of the state of OR to TX and continue with my job search there, so I did!
I was so depreseed, sick and tired of the cold, damp weather and the bad economy in that part of the country... so I got rid of everyting I owned back in Portland, rented a room in a family home in Austin for a few weeks until I could land a job and a new ride, I booked a one way ticket for me and my dog... and moved to Austin!
Lessons & tips: Do your research, plan your moves... weigh pros and cons... and do what you have to do to make you happier!
As of this week we have moved to North Austin. So far I love it and even though my #1 of paying off my credit debt is now way more unrealistic ($500 on the cc for the moving van!!!) I have accomplished a dream that I have had since the first time I visited this city in 2001! It took me over 5 years, but I am here!!!

I have been living in Austin since Jan 07/07 and I LOVE IT HERE!!! It’s been a long road all the way here… but the future looks brighter! (and sunnier than Portland, fo’sho’)
Hot as Hades in the summertime (which lasts about 5 months there), but what a GREAT city!
Well – I’m removing this from my list because it’s just not going to happen. I’ve got committments in this region of the country for several more years. After that, who knows. Maybe I’ll want to move to Spain.
