How to become a dj"Finally have my own DJ business!"
How I did it: A few months ago I decided that I wanted to start my own mobile DJ business. First thing you need is money. You're going to need to buy lots of equipment. I spent about $4,000. You need to do lots of research to make sure you're buying the right things and the best brands. Then you're going to need a large music collection. I might try checking the top-40 for the last few months. You're going to have to spend a while learning how to use all your equipment and to do a good job DJing. If you know of another DJ that would let you shadow them, that would be a good idea. I didn't, so I just set up all my equipment in my house and practiced on it a lot. Once you have your equipment and you're ready to DJ, you're going to need to advertise! Get business cards! And get a website, or if not a website then a myspace or facebook page. I currently have 720 friends on my DJ myspace. Free advertising! Here's some pictures of my set-up. ![]() ![]() Lessons & tips: Too much to write here! Do your research online! Find out the good brands and the bad brands. Buy a book about DJing! Go on DJ Forums and read! There are many expert DJs on that site that can answer any questions.
Resources: djforums.com was my biggest resource. Other than that, read the customer reviews of products! Again, this is such a big goal with so many things to learn, it would be impossible for me to post it all here!

More "How I Did It" stories
How I did it: I first started listening to electronic music back in the 10th grade, 2 years ago, then I was introduced to the rave scene, and just seeing how powerful a dj can be when it comes to dance/party events just made me want that power, I realized that power was the power I had seeked in my life. anyways, I decided to listen to more mixes and my favorite electronic genres like Hardstyle and Harddance. I then began to study the music flow and ho… Read how I did it…
How I did it: Networking is such a big help! My former intern started deejaying on the weekends for Top 40 radio as part of his gig, and he knew the ones doing it in the clubs. I was fascinated in it, then one night, he took me downtown and I shook hands with the guy that was deejaying that night. I told him I was interested in trying it out. He called me the next day and asked if I was available because he was double-booked. Th… Read how I did it…

I’ve done playlists for some events round here, and people liked, but I want to learn well some more advanced techniques like mixing two tracks with different BPM and tones without gaps. there’s the fun I wish to have.
I’m definitely doing it. I’m buying my equipment this winter, probably in January or February.
I’ve been trying to figure out how to pay for it all. It’s going to cost me around $3,200
I have about $1,500 in the bank
and I’m getting paid in advance $900 for 6 gigs.
And I’m sure I’ll get some money for Christmas, and my birthday is in February, so I can ask for some of the equipment for my birthday, and I’m sure I’ll get birthday money from my relatives.
It would be useful if I could make some money somehow too. Maybe I could sell something on ebay.
I’ve always wanted to be a DJ, but I’ve never had the money to buy the equipment. I’m thinking about finally breaking down and doing it.

I’m having my first gig on the 20th of December ..
Hold Ur thumbs people :D !! so excited

I got a mixing software demo (decadance) and now I want to get fruityloops too and start making and mixing my own songs!
I’ve dreamed of working in fashion since childhood however, beginning somewhere in my early twenties I began to fantasize about being a DJ. I love music, especially Hip Hop. DJ’s are usually trendsetters in there own right, hence my admiration. I’m currently making a list of all the equipment I need to purchase…two turntables, a microphone…
