I’m saving up for a car! My boyfriend and I have a 2004 Chevy Impala that we got from a buy-here pay-here lot in April 2009 because our credit is terrible and we had trouble getting a vehicle from a real dealership. We still owe about 3,000 on it and will have it paid off by November 2010. It has about 139 K miles on it. We’ve already had to do 800$ in car repairs. It’s got a lot of miles on it and sounds like it’ll break down soon. I’ve been trying to save up for a car, but things always seem to come up. It’s so hard. I’ve tried to open up a savings account but again.. something came up that I had to use that money towards. I’ve always had trouble with having a bank account and getting overdraft fees due to not balancing my money correctly until recently. I just started using a checkbook balance and it’s really helped me stay on top of my finances. I have saved 80$ so far from my last paycheck and get paid again this week, in which I hope to save another 20-40$. I get a financial aid grant in a month or two which will be about 2,800$ which I receive once a year. I get about 4-500$ as a grant every 4 months as well. I don’t think it’s realistic to think that I will save up ALL the extra money I have because I’m a full time, independent student and have A LOT of bills but I will stop putting it off because I need this. My goal is to save up enough money for at least 60-75% of the sticker price for a car. I want to do this so I can get financed for the rest of it and build my credit. I think that’s a manageable goal.

ManicMoonFairy is finishing my degree this year and learning to belly dance
Seeing as I still have another 1-2 years of uni left and it will be relatively hard to afford driving a car (besides the fact that I won’t need one until I work full time in teaching) I’ve decided to put money away for the next 2 years or so in order to get a car. I have started, I have a little bit but not much, still, I have to start somewhere don’t I. :)

So, I have been without a car for over 2 years now. I also was without a home until October of 2008 for about a year and a half. Saving for a car isn’t that easy and I have to go to my job but the downside is the fact that the bus service has been cut in my city so the bus doesn’t run as late as it used to and it has limited Saturday trips and no trips on Sunday. This hurts cause my job is about 2.5 miles or so away from where I live and it takes me over an hour and a half to get there and over an hour and a half to get back home and I only hope that it won’t rain but of course it does most times….and I have looked into taxi service but that would cost more than a days wage so that is not a route that should be taken. I know that this goal sounds a bit negative right now but its frustrating not being able to do things with ease like many of my peers. I am also wanting to start attending a community college but would like a car to be able to do that. But hopefully now that I have written my goal down, it will be easier to accomplish!!! Well ttyl.

2008 wasn’t a complete bust, anyway. I have almost the cost of the car saved. It helps that I was stingy this Christmas. I didn’t spend near as much on gifts as I usually have in past years. Doesn’t matter that I’m not quite there yet; there’s no reason to buy it just yet, anyway. I’ll have full ownership of my spouse’s car while he’s gone. By the time he comes back, I should have the money completely squared away.
My own car, here I come . . .

Umm I currently have $300, and man was that hard to save. I don’t know how the hell I’m going to save a couple thousand dollars. I’m 15, almost 16, so I don’t have that much time :/ My parents won’t buy me a car because they said I always get what I want and I need to save myself. I guess I kind of agree with them, I do get everything easily and saving for a car will be good for me. So as soon as I turn 16 I’m getting a job, and I should probably open a bank account to earn interest.

So I am going to start actively saving for a car. I say actively, because I always say that I will start, but never actually get around to putting any amount of money aside. Although, for me, it is hard to put money aside when there isn’t anything. I work full time and I live on my own. I pay all my own bills, so things are really tight. It’s hard to cash my checks, send out my rent, and even get groceries because I dont have my own transportation. I have to rely on friends and family to get around, which means I have to schedule my appointments around times that they are available to bring me. It’s stressful, but mostly its just extremely inconvienint. Starting this week I am going to start asking for some overtime to put money away for a car. Hopefully I can get some money up before the end of the year.

I have like 2600 dollars saved up, man that was a lot of allowances and lawn mowin’ money. I started to save at 15, I’m so dumb, shouldve started earlier. I’m only 15, 2 months till 16, I turn 16 in October, which is one milestone in my life. After that another milestone must be made. I’m currently saving my lunch money, allowances, lawn mowing profits, pay from my dads cafe, saving loose change, stealing loose change from my dad, lol, penny by penny. I want a car by the time between 17 and 18. I really want a BMW Z4, and I’m hoping to buy a used one in 2-3 years with a little help from my parents when I need it. I really want a nice car cause I want something nice to take care of, and be responsible for. Thatll be my second milestone of my life. I can just see the car I bought myself sitting in my garage. I’ve been working my butt off for my grades so I can get my third milestone, a good college. But one step at a time, my permit, my license, then my Z4. I’m sick and tired of my spoiled friends just getting the car handed to em, so I’m planning to help pay for it or try to pay for the whole Z4.

Still Saving

I am still saving money toward a car. This is serving as a test of my patience and resilience. It’s tough not having independent transportation.
