My grandmother read an article in our paper about this, and went to the store yesterday for directions. I’m actually knitting a scarf rather than a helmet liner, as she said it would be easier. So she’s doing a liner and I’ve just started on my scarf. Which is going to be HUGE. 12×42 in. I’ve figured at my slow knitting pace, it’ll take me roughly 60-70 hours to finish. 42 inches is a lot. But, it’s for the soldiers, and I’ll make a point of getting it done.

I am taking my project with me to my knitting meetups. At this rate, I should be finished by the time it snows again in Afghanistan.

I’ve got my knitting sitting on my bedstand. I do a few rounds at night. At this pace, I should complete one by the next time there’s a snowstorm in Afghanistan.

My goal is to complete and send one helmetliner by Memorial Day.
