thenewone Might be going parkouring this weekend
I want to learn how to handstand, because it could easily propel me into other goals that require a lot of balance and arm strength. This is kinda random, but I think it’s funny how 46… wait, 78 people have done this so far, and I really need help with this. I hope at least one of them could write a ‘how to’ on it.

This is something I’ve been trying to do on and off for years. I’ve recently done a personal record of holding one for 4 seconds. Once I can hold it for 20 seconds I’ll consider this done. Here is what I’ve learned so far:
1) Physical conditioning has a LOT to do with improving. Core strength is the key to holding it successfully. If you can’t lock out your legs and torso, you will never be able to hold the handstand. Obliques, abs, lats all work together to lock your core. Hand strength is also very important, because your fingertips are what make the fine adjustments for balance.
2) Don’t try to adjust by moving your legs. If you do you’re already done. Adjustment is in the hands.
3) Exercises that help, hollow rocks, planks, pushups, bridges, crunches. I started bboying which has really helped. Any move that involves freezes or stabs has helped a lot with my hand strength and core strength

I feel so lazy! Since my little incident in the hallway, it’s been raining. So for the past 5 days, I’ve had to wait out a storm and have made no progress whatsoever :( Ah well. Maybe it’ll be clear tomorrow…

Okay, my cousin Katie is a gymnast who gave me some tips on keeping myself up. She told me to a. look at my hands and to b. even more importantly that if I can’t keep myself up, I should find an open wall in my house and practice my handstands up against that. So a couple minutes ago I did just that against the hall in our second floor hallway. During which I could no longer keep myself up and fell on my shoulder which up until a few moments ago, was in throbbing pain from falling on the hard floor of the upstairs of my house. XP I am so frigging cool…damn my shoulder hurts.

I’ve never been the gymnast, but hey, worth a shot while I’m still young and flexible right? ;) Trying is fun, despite the falling on my knee that one time (Don’t recommend that experience by the way) Good luck everyone!

I will attempt to learn this…It is scary for me! Practicing on soft grass is best or landing on something soft.
