Well I’m still not finished The Winter’s Tale, but I have completed Twelfth Night because I’m in a play at the moment. Know the first three scenes off by heart and working on the rest. So not only have I read it but I can recite it lol.

Have started reading richard III. Didn’t realise that “Now is the winter of our discontent” was the first line. Heavy stuff if you are playing it, I would imagine. Straight in there! got tothe bit where he propositions Lady Anne just as she accuses him of murdering her husband. Cheeky Bastard! Will finish reading it on my travels down Route 66. Kind of cool tobe doing two goals at once Ha Haaah. life is good!

Went to see the matinee of Julius Caesar at the Abbey yesterday. I was sitting in the pub across the road seeing out the end of Man utd v Liverpool before heading off to see the play, when two of the actors came in, ordered drinks and sat at the bar to watch the game. ‘This cant be right”, i thought. Turned out the actor playing Cassius had done his back in and the show was cancelled. Got my ticket changed to the evening show and went to see The Good Shepard which confused the hell out of me.
When I did get to see the show I was a bit dissapointed. It came across as quite dull. Maybe its just the play. Must try and see the movie with Marlon Brando which I have heard is very good. Untill then I willmove on and read one of the others. Which one though….

Have just bought a copy and have started in on it. The Cobbler seems quite funny. Will see the play later this week.
Ok, just finished reading it. Oddly, it gets interesting after Caesar dies. and the ending is strange. The ghost of Caesar appears only once and is referred to only once again, but it seems that it is fate (or the ghost) that determines the death of Cassius and the outcome of the Battle itself. Better give the commentary a spin and then see how the Abbey present it.

Shakespeare seems to have had a thing about Italy. The merchant of Venice; Romeo & Juliet; Julius Caeser; Othello; Two Gentlemen of Verona. Any others? Makes me wonder about the cultural significance of Italy in England at that time. Gosh I’m deep.

Going to see a production of this at the Abbey next week. I know nothing about it, so looking forward to it but will still have to read it which is an odd compulsion as these plays were meant to be seen, not read. Will buy a copy over the weekend.

I have read Macbeth; King Lear; Hamlet; Othello; HenryIV part II; Midsummer Nights Dream; Romeo & Juliet; The Merchant of venice and The Tempest. They are hard to read but I’ve acted in some of these and theres nothing like it. Take your time, have an annotated text and read sections out loud. These are my tips. Its worth it. The man was a genius.
