But now that I’ll probably be moving to Sapporo (a.k.a. let me leach some more rent out of you, please) I’m upping the ante to 1 000 000.

A surprise 16 months ago

I’m almost there! Shit, how did that happen in two and a bit months?

Ah, probably because I haven’t yet paid for the Kyoto trip, I suspect.

Still, it’s nice to feel as if I’m making good progress, even if it’s all one big heartless illusion.

Hands up if you heart illusions!

budgetary distress 17 months ago

So, in order to better accomplish this goal, I set myself the emminently doable budget of 9 man a month excluding rent and bills. Japan is a cash society so I’ve been taking out my nine man at the start of the month and then once that’s finished I’m stuck until the next month.

Unfortunately I had a few unforeseen expenses in January and needed an extra 5 sen (half a man), so I decided to withdraw February’s money early and then not withdraw anything until March. I’ve just checked the envelope and somehow, I’ve only got 3 man left for the next six weeks with a skiing trip to Niseko to finance for mid-February!!
How did this happen?! I haven’t bought any clothes, nor books, nor unnecessarily expensive body lotions. I don’t understand!! The only explanation I can see is that I went and bought fifteen bottles of Aveda hair products and three magnums of champagne and then just blocked the whole thing out and buried them in the garden!

Luckily I have those underground storage cabinets filled with tins of black beans and chick peas and campbells condensed tomato soup.

Looks like I’ll be a walking ball of orange flatulence by this time next month. But at least I’ll have jolly nice hair, and be pretty trolleyed while I’m at it…
