I haven’t lived in this city very long. I just discovered that there is a local kayaking outpost about 20 miles away. Looks like fun! This should be an easy goal to accomplish.

How I did it: Find a class or a group to go with. If you've never gone before you'll want to get some instruction with other beginners. I heard about a canoe club here in Philadelphia. Turns out they are classes in all kinds of water sports. People who love what they do want to share it with others. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I'm afraid of the open ocean water. To try to face this fear, my boyfriend and I went sea kayaking. The first time we did this was in Cabo San Lucas. We kayaked in the Sea of Cortez. The views were amazing. We took our time just paddling and enjoying the beautiful views. All in all I've gone kayaking 3 times. 2 times in the Sea of Cortez and once around the Marrietas Island in Puerto Vallarta. I do it as a relaxation excursion. Read how I did it…
How I did it: put the paddles in the water and moved my body and arms in an odd semi-circular fashion swaying back and forth using abdominal muscles.......i got to see a sea otter. Read how I did it…

How I did it: During my Alaskan cruise, a few friends and I decided to go kayaking. Our excursion was actually in Canada because part of our cruise passed through their waters. We booked the trip during our first hour onboard the ship and a few days later disembarked in Victoria, Canada. The trip was spectacular. The water was an icy glacier blue and the mountains surrounding the pristine lake were simply majestic. We decided to fly solo rather than ta… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I first went kayaking with my aunt on Puget Sound in Washington, and it was absolutely amazing - we paddled alongside seals and jellyfish, and watched sailboats slide by. I'll never forget it. Read how I did it…

Sea Kayaking in the ocean in Mexico. Too much fun. We kayaked out to a sand dune and got out and played. HopefullY I will move somewhere and be able to go more often!
I might be going sea kayaking in Gran Canaria in February, if the kayaking company ever emails me back (maybe they are still trying to decipher my pidgin spanish). It sounds really good. I’m thinking about going on a week’s kayaking holiday in the South of France later this year (river not sea) so this would be a good opportunity to try it out before then.

My friend Marilyn just called and said her husband got a REALLLLY well paying job and so she will be taking over the tattoo shop for him and with all the extra money she will be getting a Kayak for two people in the spring! Yeah, I’ll get to go kayaking right when I get back from fat camp before I move. She is my biking buddy, we started biking this past summer and decided to add some more sports next year b4 I leave! FUN! PLUS, I just found out that my uncle used to own a kayaking tour guide company and he was a guide in Maine years ago. How weird….I don’t know what my obsession with kayaking has been lately. I even went to pro bass shops and looks at the ones there…..it’s cheaper than biking! even when you buy the WHOLE BOAT!

I have obviously been before, but I just got one of my own. The only problem is that even though I live in Florida, it’s getting cold outside. But I have a wetsuit, so I figured I’ll suit up and see how bad the water is. If it isn’t miserable, then I will set a goal for the winter. See you out there!
Kayaked across a bay and down a river. Great rhythmic activity for thinking and sight-seeing.
Hedgepiglet is a little scared about being that experimental!
Must go tomorrow!!
Who: Alex
Where: Blackstone Canal, Lincoln, RI
When: before winter
How: Rent kayaks from Blackstone Valley Outfitters (nearby). They’re $35/day, which is a bit expensive for me (I was hoping $10/hour or some such). But they do have tandems for $45/day, or a three-hour guided tour for $30/each.
Tammy is blooming where I'm planted!
how peaceful! Actually, I wasn’t sure if I could do this because of my bum back. I thought I was going to have to cross all the physically active items off of my “No Regrets List”, but a friend stated that I could let the water current do all the work. All I had to do was stear the craft.
What fun. I wanna go again!
