I own thousands of books. Most are children’s books, as I am a scholar in this area, but some are philosophy, arts & crafts (about the book arts, no less), and other subjects. They give me great joy. However, I’ve recently moved them . . . twice! Mostly by myself! I swear, I was 3” taller before carrying all the boxes of books, which I think compressed my spine! I had to select a place to move into based on the fact that the books would have a separate room and not have to go up or down stairs. I’m also contemplating building a house . . . you guessed it . . . so I can have adequate access to all the books! But, I don’t smoke so I don’t waste money on cigarettes, so I’m not feeling guilty about this and I have a wonderful collection to leave to a deserving charity/research library one day, or sell off one-by-one (several are autographed and most are first editions) on Amazon.com if I fall on hard times :)
Maybe not a million, but over 1400. They’re actually a burden, beautiful to look at, nice when I have a spare two hours, but considering I move every year or two, all in all I wish I had developed a library habit instead. Luckily I have a good friend about to take them off my hands as I leave Hawaii. Read your books and if they’re any good, give them away.
the one in beauty and the beast. you know, when the beast surprises Belle by showing and giving her the library that is like, three stories high with books and ladders all over the place. books from floor to ceiling. it’s beautiful. i want a library like THAT.
...on wheels amongst floor-to-ceiling books and it will be heavenly.
