Yes it is sad but true: Hector needs to leave me. He is hearing Takergirl’s call across the ocean and really wants to meet her – she sounds like a nice gal. We are both more than a little sorry to part, though, and actually wish that I could come with him to Takergirl and celebrate her birthday with her. But alas, to no avail!
So: goodbye sweet penguin, have a good trip!

Just a little bit more sightseeing as I went shopping for stuff. This, for example, is a glimpse of the Begijnenhof where little old ladies live in an oasis of calm around the English church – and are overrun with tourists. You see the date on the facade of the house? That is why Europeans wear a puzzled expression around ‘historical landmarks’ in the US. :D Oh, come off it, a bit of snobby eurofun!

Then we went to the ‘most beautiful street of Amsterdam’ as voted by readers of the local newspaper Parool: Brouwersgracht.

Today we went sightseeing a little around town as I went shopping for some specific stuff and Hector was only too happy to join me. So we hopped on the bike together! First thing he sees is the Heineken Brewery, I just couldn’t stop him yelling Take a picture for Jack! Take a picture for Jack! so we took a picture. This one’s for you, Admiral.

Thanks to a detour we had to take because of our wonderful Dutch rail system, we ended up in Utrecht Central Station. Here they had sat up an Olympic ‘living room’ where you can sit and watch the games. Theme: Holland! So we spent a little time time watching the baseball game Holland vs. US. (Guess who won? Duh!)
