Recipe 1: Coke Chicken 19 months ago

So simple that it made me feel a bit stupid. Haha.

The original recipe came from my friend who is clueless about cooking, but who pulled this one so successfully. The original was only chicken with coke poured enough to cover the chicken, and then later on add in chicken marinade.

But being the complicated cook I am, I refused it to be THAT simple and I had, had, had to bastardised it. The final recipes come from combining every Coke chicken recipe I found.

    Ingredients and How-To

(Based on the experiment, estimating this will serve 3)

    500g chicken
    1 cup Coke
    1/2 cup Ketchup
    1/2 cup BBQ sauce
    1 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce

    1. Mix the coke, ketchup, bbq sauce and wochi sauce in a saucepan/frying pan (as long as it is big or wide enough to hold chicken and liquid).
    2. Bring to boil, then turn down the heat to a simmer.
    3. Add chicken pieces.
    4. Simmer for an hour

Is that simple or what? :P

    Verdict
    • The boyfriend loves it.
    • It turned out tasting almost like sweet sour chicken, so I’m thinking that the tomato ketchup and bbq sauce should be reduced to 1/4 cup.
    • Or alternatively, can choose to either use one or the other (ketchup or bbq sauce, not both).
    • Made another batch with just coke and bbq sauce but did not taste it. Freeze it for my boyfriend, who said it still tasted marvellous. So…
    Side Note
    • Honestly, I think it’s up to the individual to wait for an hour or to consider the dish done when the chicken is cooked. I waited an hour so that the sauce can evaporate and thicken.
    • I find that using drumsticks or chicken thigh is much better than chicken breast. It’s juicier.
    • I served it with fried rice.

    Why? 19 months ago

Because I got tired of cooking the same fare all the time. I learnt to cook at the age of 10, and by 15 I was the family cook (that’s how strategic mum is…spew daughter and in 15 years you can rest your weary butt off!). I’m thinking of making my own tried and tested recipe folder. So if anyone have recipes to share too for me to try, feel free! ;)
