How to go to Angkor Wat by nelvillareal

How I did it: i made the decision to go earlier this year. once the flight and the hotel was booked - it was a matter of getting there and hitting the trails. 

there are several sites to visit angkor wat being the most famous. there is also angkor thom with the bayon and ta prohm along with prea kahn. 
make sure you have enough time to see them all. 

Lessons & tips: start early and avoid the crowds. i am not a fan of tourist crowds and hankering to get a good shot of some of the key images here. we decided to go counter clockwise to how the tourists usually visit the sites. by doing this we avoided the crowds and each site had less harried experience to it. 

Resources: guidebooks are good.

definitely visit the national museum before going to the sites. it helps to understand the history and see what studies they have done on these magnificent places. also if you do not have a guide for this - it is best to know what you are looking at. it helps deepen the appreciation.

    Easy trip from Bangkok on Siem Reap Air (part of Bangkok Airways).
    Fantastic views at sunset when the fading light really brings out the red stone of the temples.
    Be prepared for steep climbs on the amain Angkor temple and not a great place if you’re afraid of heights :(
