I’m actually getting quite creative at these. I’ve discovered that the beauty of bento boxes as lunches is the variety you can create just by throwing different elements together and also by having a few different elements for the meal. I try and have a “main” element of some sort, such as a sandwich or a wrap or something substantial like that. Then I usually have a side salad and then I have some fruit. 9 months ago

How I did it: I firstly saw a website that had all these pictures of lunches that people had made and a description of what everything was. I was getting a bit sick of sandwiches and the same old lunches so I thought I would give making bento type lunches a go.
Now, the bentos I make aren't like true Japanese bentos. They are Westernised but the idea is still the same and I will have a variety of things to eat everyday. Before I may have just had a wrap but now I will have a side salad of vegetables and some fruit as well.
It makes my lunch feel more well rounded and before we go grocery shopping on the weekends I plan out exactly what I'm going to make every day for lunch and that way we can buy exactly what we are going to need. I make my lunch the night before and then in the morning if I am running late or sleep in a bit, it's no big deal, I just grab my lunch out of the fridge. I also find I don't go out and buy snacks any more because I am more than satisfied from my lunch.

Another successful bento box today me thinks. Inside you will see:
- Turkey spirals
- Cheese cubes
- Baby spinach leaves
- Cherry tomotoes
- Carrot sticks
- Green beans
- Banana and sliced peaches

I made my first attempt at a bento box today. It’s not Japanese style with rice and stuff, but I think it’s a good attempt at a Western interpretation of a bento. Unfortunately I don’t have a bento worthy box with seperate sections and layers so I had to put it into about 4 different containers. We’ll see how it tastes today.
**Edit: Just ate my lunch and it was delicious! I have uploaded a photo. 10 months ago
