grow veggies in our garden

I planted seeds for a Fall harvest 5 days ago. About eight of the 20 veggies I planted have already germinated even though it has been rainy and cool.

It’s stormy out there right now. I’m so ready for this weather pattern to move out and warm sunny summer days to return. So are my tomatoes.

When I first added this goal it was early Spring and I was energized by the upcoming growing season. We had planned this year to build garden boxes and plant our Summer bounty. Then April 7th S. broke his collar bone and needed surgery and rehab. He tried to build a box despite having the use of only one functional arm. I attempted to help as much as possible. Seemed like a simple matter starting out. Anyway, much frustration ensued and not-pleasant-language, and we decided to wait to finish this project. I bought a couple tomato plants in pots for the deck and some basil, and decided that next year we would tend a garden again.

This past weekend we started back on this project because S. has improved strength and range of motion. And even though it is mid-July, there is still much that we can plant for Fall harvest! It surprises me a little that this pleases me so much.
